RAREST IMM International Mercantile Marine vtg stock certificate w/ LADY AT TOP

$ 237.59

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Modification Description: It was hand punch canceled on the 2 signature lines toward the bottom. Some words were neatly blacked out on the left side in black marker. Its paper is crinkled, most noticeably in lower rt quadrant.
  • Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
  • California Prop 65 Warning: n/a
  • All returns accepted: ReturnsNotAccepted
  • Cruise Ship & Ocean Liner: White Star & Titanic
  • Condition: Though Unissued, it shows definite wear. Its paper is crinkled throughout so it does not lay flat on a flat surface. It is most noticeably crinkled in its lower right quadrant. I do not see any old water stains so the crinkling may have been due to being improperly stored. There were some words on the left side neatly blacked out in marker. Both signature lines toward the bottom were hand punch canceled. The attached stub was folded back behind the certificate. Both the certificate and attached stub have worn edges, dinged corners and scattered fingernail marks on the edges. The left side edge of the attached stub shows the most wear of all. It has a concentration of creases and folds down that edge's entire length, giving it a crumpled look there. This certificate and attached stub are in poor to fair condition. Since the stub has already been folded behind the certificate, for ease in packaging and mailing, it will be shipped that way with the stub folded back behind the certificate.

    Description

    Offering here the RAREST of all International Mercantile Marine stock certificates made here in the United States.
    Why is it the rarest?
    First reason, you will notice its design at the top is not that of the common ship, but rather, it is a lady with a sword holding the scales of justice. Though it happened occasionally, businesses in the early 20th Century rarely changed the design on their stock certificates.
    Second reason, you will notice on its attached stub that in 2 separate places it has the preprinted year 190_ which means it was produced and meant to have been actually used by no later than 1909 given that the Zero is shown.
    Third, this certificate was never issued to anyone. Normally, when a company changed designs of their stock certificates, they destroyed whatever leftover inventory remained of outdated issues. Somehow, this certificate survived.
    This certificate is Unissued and was meant for 10 Shares of International Mercantile Marine common stock. It is Brown in color with the alternate vignette design at the top as mentioned previously. This particular certificate is number G330 . The year on the attached stub is factory printed as 190_. IMM intended on using it by the end of 1909 but just never did.
    International Mercantile Marine owned the White Star Line which commissioned the construction of the Titanic. Titanic sank on its maiden voyage after striking an iceberg, killing over 1,500 passengers aboard. The Unissued IMM stock certificate offered here was produced years before the Titanic disaster.
