    Description

Hamburg American Line - A rare German postcard showing the launch of the BISMARCK on June 20, 1914.
According to the caption on front, the Kaiser was in attendance as the ship was christened by Countess Hannah von Bismarck. On back are ship stats.
After WW1, how sad this once-hopeful day must have seemed to German citizens. Soon after the pomp and ceremony, work stopped on what would have been Hamburg American Line's ultimate masterpiece. After the war the ship was completed in Germany, then reluctantly handed over to the British where she came White Star Line's MAJESTIC.
    Very good condition.
